T+ 354 Robbed.

Filed under: The Road — Greg @ 1:15 pm

Well after another fantastic and highly entertaining game, once again it was ruined by the fkn ref. Didn’t see the papers or press yesterday but can guess what the papers were saying - pretty much what I was saying (Although probably with a little less swearting!) Like most Aussies I don’t mind loosign fair and square, but to loose from a bullshite ref’s decision is crap. When are they going to have a video umpire for those sorts of life altering decisions?

Yikes my lift is here and unless I wanna walk a long way gotta run! Will continue my rant at a later stage!

I’m back - won’t continue ranting as it’s just not worth the effort. At the end of the day the Pretty Boys acted well and got what they wanted. I’m proud of Australia for getting that far and having a red hot go. Well done boys! I’ll definatly be barracking for the Ukrainians tomorrow though - hope they smash them!

T+352 Still Going!

Filed under: The Road — Greg @ 11:53 am

Jeez after a heart stopping game against the Croats we’re still in it! Our round of 16 game kicks off in just a few hours now and I hope you’ll all be watching it. The Italians are pretty damn cocky and assure everyone they can’t loose, but you know what they say ‘Pride cometh before the fall’ and after watching them play the Seppos I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a RHG and get somewhere! Go Boys!

In other news for my first test last week I achieved 93.5 outta a possible 98 so pretty freakin happy with myself. This is the first thing (except perhaps photography) that I’ve ever really enjoyed studying and learning about - ferk what a difference a bitta motivation and interest makes huh? Gotta run and study now as my next test is this arvo just before the game - when the serious drinking, er, I mean watching of football begins!

Oh yeah, if you are reading this do leave a comment every now and then! Since the site went down I’m not sure how many people have returned to reading!

G.

PS. Just did a google search of ‘gregdick’ my blog is first but check out some of the other funny shite the search reveals! Searching on ‘greg dick’ I haven’t found my site but again some damn funny stuff!

T+348 Go Australia!

Camp.JPGKitchen.JPGSurvival.JPG

 Hi All,

Here are some photos of where I’m living and working. The two tents are for me, one for my bed and one for my shite. The next is my kitchen where I prepare and cook all my meals. Thirdly is our survival camp which we built - my hands are getting tough with all this work - no more city boy hands for me!

I trust that you’ll all be watching Australia play tonight - I believe that if we draw tonight we’re through to the round of 16! I’ll be watching, you’ll prolly be able to hear me yelling! Keep an eye out for a fat bald man wearing a Koala suit. He’s my old boss! Go Jacob!

OK - for some reason having just posted this I can’t seem to get the thumbnails to link to the bigger pics… will work on it next time. Mean time you have a bit of an idea.

T+343 SA - Hazyview: First Week

Filed under: The Road — Greg @ 9:23 am

Well folks my first week has almost been completed, I’ve got a test this arvo and have been studying my bum off for the last coupla days. This week has been primarily theoretical, starting tomorrow we get really practical, out in the bush most of the time!

Let me tell you a little about where I live. I’m staying in a little ‘A’ frame tent, imagine the old style tents and you’ve got it. It’s just big enough to fit my mattress in and my sleeping bag, that’s about it. I’ve another tent next to me for my gear. I cook all my own meals with food provided, a three burner gas cooker and a kettle are my companions in a rather large cooking tent, oops forgot that yesterday I bought a toaster!! I’ve also the luxury of a fridge! Photos will be posted when I get around to taking some and bringing them to the internet cafe. I wasn’t sure how fast the internet would be here but it’s super fast so I’ll be able to start uploading photos soonish. Also think I need to organise the flikr connection to my blog before I can get serious about photos! The nerd who knows not much!

On to more important stuff - Football. Go Australia!! I was the only guy in the bar for our first game, screaming my head off at the telly - 3 brilliant goals in the last 15 mins really made my day. Sunday is a huge day for us, hope you’re all barracking for the Japs ’cos if they beat Croatia then we’ve a good chance of making into the second round! Our game against Brazil will be a cracker, hopefully we’ll see Ronaldo waddling around the pitch and not doing much again! I’m lucky enough to have a bar 50m down the road from where I’m living that has satellite tv so have managed to see most games. The bar staff of course know me and I drink at staff prices (-50%), nice one Dickman! The only thing I really have to worry about are the hippos that wander round after dark, I have to ’Run the Gauntlet’ - if next time you see me I’m a little flatter than before you’ll know why!

Internet is kinda expensive here so gonna keep this short, needless to say I’m having a great time, learning a bunch and working hard. Ciao.

T+335 R&R Complete, Now off to Work!

Filed under: The Road — Greg @ 7:37 am

Mother & Cub

Well folks, my week of R&R (really only 4 days but I’m pretending!) is over, I’ve managed to sorta shake the cold I’ve picked up and catch up on most of my sleep. Gotta stop burning the candle at both ends! Today see’s me sign off from Nelspruit and head upto Hazyview, hopefully my last Chappa (minivans that carry one million people, but they’re cheap!) ride for a while! I commence my game ranging course tomorrow for 20 days - yes I’m aware that it’s for most of the World Cup, but hopefully I’ll still be able to catch at least the Australian games. Especially the one against Brazil. Not sure how often I’ll be checking email or updating here but hopefully at least once a week. My Australian mobile is working again now so feel free to sms me  - I like getting messages from youse at home!

This site, when I get some time to learn more will be undergoing more changes etc. to try to improve it’s look and functionality. All comments and suggestions are welcome, but bare with me whilst I learn! Hopefully I’ll be seeing a lot more of the above!

Out.

PS. Oh how exciting I’ve learned how to post a photo! (Alas, no I didn’t take it. I got some pretty good ones just gotta get ‘em off my hard drive!)

T+333 Getting There!

Filed under: General Musings — Greg @ 12:54 pm

Ok, have been crashing (literally sometimes!) around this thing called my blog for a few hours now and have added a few bits and pieces. I’m still learning but getting the hang of it me thinks. Photos should be coming soon me thinks and I should be able to upload ‘em myself all things being equal… which means a lot more photographs of the Wildman and his domain for you - my loyal fans!!! Ha!

T+332 SA - Nelspruit: New Guff

Filed under: The Road — Greg @ 8:10 am

As I know you’ve all noticed (judging by the amount of emails I got!) that my site fell off the face of the earth a few weeks ago. I may have been a computer nerd once apon a time but internet stuff escaped me then as it does now!! Mista Boyce has been kind enough to tolerate my failings and give me a hand to set up a site that I SHOULD be able to take care of on my own. This is it. As I learn more it will become better I promise. More photos as well!

For those of you not upto date on where I am and what I’m doing here’s the skinny. I’ve just returned to South Africa after almost a month in Mozambique, 3 weeks on a beach, partying my arse off and generally having a good time have now come to an end. I’m recouperating from my good time in Nelspruit (just sth of the Kruger) and am starting a Game Ranging course in Hazyview (also just near the Kruger) on Saturday the 10th. This will run for a month and after I will be sitting an exam to get my level 1 qualification with FGASA (Field Guides Ass. of SA) hopefully I will be working for them for a few months afterwards to gain more experience.

My travels (oh yeah, 11 months now!) have convinced me that what I really want to do is take photographs, so that’s what I’m gonna do. I really want to stay here and do a course as I want to be a photojournilist and wildlife photographer, what a better place for either of those than Africa?? The other alternative is coming home to study at RMIT next year. Not sure which of those I’m gonna do yet but will decide in the next few months.

Well kids that’s just about it, the more I learn about this blog thing the cooler it will be!

 Later.
